Araraume Begins Governorship Bid, Says PDP Will Crush APC In Imo State

Araraume
Senator Ifeanyi Araraume last Friday began his third successive attempt to be Imo State Governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP

He fired warning shots at the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC led by Governor Rochas Okorocha declaring that total failure and defeat awaits the Governor and his party at the governorship polls.

Araraume who spoke while addressing a tumultuous crowd of PDP members in Owerri as part of his ongoing consultation/mobilization tour of the 27 local Government Areas in Imo State, maintained that the impending 2015 elections in Imo State will be political doom for Governor Rochas Okorocha of the APC, stressing that PDP leaders in the State are working closely to ensure that the APC does not return to Government House in 2015.

Araraume said the importance of the tour he has embarked on was also aimed at mobilizing support for the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan while former Governor Achike Udenwa was given a specific instruction to revive ailing PDP structures in the 305 wards in the state.

He added that such a move was geared towards strengthening the party in the State and prepare it ahead of the general elections which begins in February, 2015

Araraume also spoke on zoning saying, at every political dispensation in Imo State, aspirants from the three geo political zones of the State always joined the political contest. He also called on party members not be fooled by those who make unrealistic promises.

It will be recalled that Araraume won the Imo PDP governorship primaries in 2006 but could not be the party’s governorship candidate due to internal party squabbles.

It took the intervention of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo who came to Owerri to announce that Araraume was not the PDP candidate for the 2007 polls, thus handed over the party’s governorship ticket to Charles Ugwu, an industrialist.

Araraume quashed Ugwu’s nomination as PDP Imo governorship flagbearer via a Supreme Court ruling that nullified Ugwu’s nomination.

The PDP went to the polls without a candidate but backed Ikedi Ohakim, the then PPA governorship candidate who later on won the Governorship election.

Again, Araraume challenged Ohakim’s victory in the law courts.

In 2011, he decamped to the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN where he contested for the governorship election. He placed a distant third at the Polls coming behind then Governor Ikedi Ohakim of the PDP and Rochas Okorocha of APGA who won the election.
He was among those that returned to the PDP early this year.
