Senator Anyanwu |
Anyanwu who spoke to newsmen in Owerri said things may no longer be business as usual as the drop in price of oil in the international market has really affected the nation's economy.
He said oil prices may drop further coupled with the fact that the United States which is Nigeria’s major oil buyer has an oil reserve that may last up to 50 years.
The senator said his committee has done well by attending to about 68 petitions that were forwarded to it on various issues, stressing that confidence on the committee has grown in leaps and bounds.
Anyanwu, who represents Owerri Zone (Imo East Senatorial District) in the senate, advised the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha to strive cushion the hardship that is ravaging the people of Imo State.
He advised the governor to not downsize the state work force which is the live-wire of the Imo economy.
Imo State has a public service driven economy with no industrial presence to absorb millions of unemployed youths.
Senator Anyanwu “I can see and notice that there is anger in the land. There is despair and we know that the situation is so bad and I call on the people of the State to co- operate with the government by paying their taxes.
He made a case for some suspended traditional rulers in Imo State by Governor Okorocha, stating that “it is not right to perpetually keep the custodians of our culture on suspension.
“There should be a common ground to resolve these grievances” he advised.
Anyanwu said the people of his Owerri senatorial zone are yet to see the best from him, stating that he has strived to represent them effectively despite distractions from his APC senatorial opponent who challenged his electoral victory in Court.
Anyanwu’s senatorial victory was challenged by APC’s Uche Onyeagocha which the latter lost in court
