The Nigeria Labour
Congress, NLC has vowed to move against the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas
Okorocha over his sack of some workers in the State just as the deadline it issued to the State government to recall the workers has expired today
It also says it will declare
“national action” on Imo State if the action is not reversed
The NLC accused the Imo
State government of surreptitiously sacking workers in the State, and vowed to
shut down the government.
Rising from a crucial
meeting after its National Executive Council meeting on Friday, the Labour
Union said it would “mobilize to Imo State shut it down as a response to
Governor Okrocha’s consistent anti- labour policies, impunity and retrenchment
of workers, in spite of his promises to the leadership of the Congress that he
would not take such decisions.
“Congress also resolved
to take a national action in respect of Imo if necessary”
PREMIUM TIMES, an
Online platform quoted the Imo State Chairman of NLC, Austin Chilakpu as saying
that the leadership of NLC was not opposed to reduction in the number of
workforce of the State government, considering its dwindling resources.
He said “What NLC is kicking against is the
faulty process because these workers are under the civil and public service
rules
“The statue book
engaging them spelt out the ways and manners they shall be hired or fired” he
said.
He said the NLC has
issued a seven day ultimatum to the State government to reverse the decision.
