Some women from Umuduruegwelle community in Ehimo
Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State
have expressed their
disenchantment over incessant rape in their community carried out by faceless hoodlums.
The women displayed placards with inscriptions that portrayed their anger. Such inscriptions read ‘We detest raping, killing of women in Umuduruegwelle,’ ‘NDLEA: Stop the selling and consumption of hard drugs in Umuduruegwelle,’ ‘IMSG and police, check activities of cultists in our community.’
Leader of the protesting women, Mrs Theresa Iwundu appealed to security agencies operating in the State to save them from their current ordeal.
She gave graphic details how one Mrs Esther Joseph was murdered in her farm last month. This online newspaper had reported the gory incident. She expressed regret that the hoodlums and perpetrators of this act are now moving into the community especially primary and secondary schools.
She described the protest as last resort, stressing that women in the area now find it difficult to go their farms because of the actions of these hoodlums.

“The woman’s husband and children became apprehensive at about 4pm when she had not returned home and began a frantic search for her. They rushed back home and raised an alarm after sighting only her wheelbarrow in the farm.
