The Vice
Presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP allocated to the South
East geo political zone may be shaky following the turn of events at the national convention of the party held in
Port Harcourt, Rivers State on Saturday, 21st May, 2016
It
announced the cancellation of the all zoning arrangements made by Sherrif but retained zoning of the presidency to the Northern
part of the country.
The convention
which sacked the party’s interim national chairman, Ali Modu Sherrif went on as
the PDP reversed itself by going ahead with the exercise after it had announced
its cancellation.
A new
caretaker committee was put in place after former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu announced the removal of the National Working Committee, NWC.
Former
Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi was named the caretaker committee
chairman, while Senator Ben Obi was announced as the Secretary. The committee
will be in place for three months.
The PDP
has been embroiled in fresh crisis over plans by Sherrif to become the party’s
national chairman, a move which split the party into two factions.
