One of the witnesses, Abu Sule told the Court that he ( Ohakim) transferred $2.3 million dollars given to him by Ohakim for the purchase of the property located at 60, Kwame Nkrumah street, Asokoro, Abuja
.
Mr. Ohakim is standing trial for allegedly buying the property
.The witness, Abu Sule, who is an architect, had told the court in 2015 that he received N270 million in US Dollars equivalent. He repeated that claim during cross examination on Wednesday.
Mr. Sule said the money was given to him by Mr. Ohakim, in $100 bills, packaged in a “Ghana must go bag”.
On Wednesday, he told the court in Abuja that he took the money to Unity Bank, Maitama, where he handed it over to Muktar Maidabino, the owner of the property.
According to him, Mr. Maidabino issued a deed of consignment in place of a receipt.
He affirmed his earlier statement that the property was purchased in the name of his company,
Tweenex Consociate Limited on the directive of the former governor.
“Tweenex consociate limited is the registered owner of the property at number 60, Kwame Nkrumah Street Asokoro Abuja with AGIS,” Mr. Sule told the court.
Mr. Maidabino, who was in court on Wednesday as the third prosecution witness, confirmed dealing with Mr. Sule, but said he was meeting Mr. Ohakim for the first time.
Mr. Maidabino said he wrote the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to assign the property to Tweenex Ltd, after N177, 572.50 was paid as ground rent to the Abuja Geographical Information System (AGIS), in addition to N4, 129, 000 paid for title regularisation in November, 2008.
The case was adjourned till Thursday, May 5, 2016 for further hearing.
