Imo PDP Secretariat Demolished, AICE Students Protest, NBA Raise Alarm

The ongoing demolition of illegal structures to pave way for  the dualization of major roads in Owerri by the Okorocha administration, has affected the PDP secretariat in Owerri.

Yesterday, the fence of the secretariat located along Owerri- Okigwe road was demolished. There has been no official response from the party on the act.

The PDP in the State, though in political disarray, is the fiercest opposition party to the ruling APC. it has consistently opposed the policies of the state government
Officials of the Imo State government told this newspaper that the ongoing demolition exercise is not aimed at witch hunting anyone but to restore the original masterplan of Owerri which has been distorted with the erection shanties and illegal buildings.

Last week, the fence covering the palatial building of former Minister of Interior, Capt Emmanuel Iheanacho was demolished.  Iheanacho had secured a Court Order to compel the agents of the State government not to demolish the fence covering his building.

The state government defied the court order..

Iheanacho was the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2015 governorship election.

However, the  Owerri branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, has raised  an alarm, alleging that  State  Government wants to demolish its property situated on Orlu Road in the capital city.

The students of Alvan Ikoku federal College of Education, Owerri, Saturday, staged a peaceful protest over Government’s plan to demolish the only walk Lane flyover on the campus, demanding that a new one be built before the existing is demolished.

The State government had demolished illegal structure along Orlu Road, Akwakuma, Mbari Street, MCC road, Okigwe road , Ikenegbu layout all in the state capital.
