Group Punctures Ohakim's Senatorial Ambition, Say Ex Imo Governor Is Unpopular

He is yet to formally declare for Okigwe senatorial seat; though his body language shows he may take a shot at it.

Former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim was on the spotlight last week when a group, Imo Youth Vanguard advised  him, to forget about his ambition.

The group in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ben Ahamefule, warned the party to desist from entertaining "unpopular candidates" for the forthcoming elections.

Ahamefule noted that the former governor had made himself very unpopular in the state, "and that there was no way he could win election in the state, particularly in Okigwe zone.”

He said the Okigwe zone chapter of the Imo Youth Vanguard met in Lagos over the weekend to brainstorm on the best candidate to represent the party, and came to the conclusion that Ohakim will not make the right choice.
"The association is therefore cautioning PDP against fielding the former governor as their Okigwe senatorial candidate," he said.

The group's spokesman said after their deliberation, they "advised Ohakim to seek ministerial or ambassadorial appointment and allow better a candidate to emerge to enhance PDP victory in Okigwe senatorial zone."
"To be forewarned is to be before armed," he added.
