Imo APGA In Bits And Pieces, As Governorship Candidates Fight Dirty

The three frontline governorship aspirants in the Imo State chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Martin Agbaso, Capt Emmanuel Iheancho are contributng to deep factionalization in the party, authoritative sources say.

However, the entrance of former Minister of Interior, Capt Emma Iheancho  further widened the gulf of discord prevalent in the party in the State.

The party in Imo State is in bits and pieces, with over three parrell party executives existing at various levels and said to be loyal to each of the governorship aspirants.

A source in the party said “each of the three aspirants, Capt Iheancho, Martin Agbaso and one Chief Uwaleke are in control of their party executives from the ward to the State levels, each of them claiming to be the legitimate party executives in the State”

This blog gathered that this development deepened when the law courts quashed the Victor Umeh led executive and declared the Maxi Okwu group as the authentic national executive of APGA

Those who back the Umeh group are mainly  in the camp of Chief Martin Agbaso, a serial governorship aspirant on the APGA platform.

He is expected to announce his declaration for the governorship contest in mo State by the end of the month of May for a record fourth time.

Those who have aligned with the Maxi Okwu group are loyalists of Capt Iheanacho. The sailor decamped from the PDP to APGA and swiftly declared his intention to contest.

The other governorship candidate Uwaleke is also busy setting up APGA structures in the State ostensibly to serve as buffer to his governorship ambition in Imo State.

A party source said “This has been become battle of the survival of the fittest. As a result, what we see is blackmail, deceit and outright lies against the other. Recently, a document was circulated against Capt Iheancho which claimed that he has resigned from the party. That is to tell you how deep the party has sunk in Imo State”

APGA has been firm in Imo State wining most of the elections only to fall victim to political fraud. In 2011, Owelle Rochas Okorocha  gave APGA its first victory at the State level only to decamp a year later.
