Imo PDP Guber Aspirants Sulk Over Hope Uzodinma's Ambition.

Some governorship Aspirants on the platform of the PDP in Imo State are losing sleep over the governorship ambition of Senator Hope Uzodinma.

Senator Uzodinma represents Orlu Zone (Imo North) in the Senate.

Since reports filtered out that he is likely to contest, it is likely to change the political colouration of the governorship contest in the party, thus annoying other aspirants who had seen the senator as pillar of support to their aspirations. 



There are reports that Uzodinma greatest weapon is his firm grip of the party structure in the State having backed the appointment of majority of members of the State Executive Council of the party in the State. This attracted other aspirants to the senator who thought he will be their backbone.

A source said Uzodinma's meteoric rise in the party began after the 2011 governorship elections which the party lost to APGA, stakeholders and political heavyweights abandoned it only to be resuscitated by the Senator who facilitated their appointments.

According to him, this may have served as a basis for the senator to opt for the governorship ticket of the party believing that the party executives are loyal to him, will support his aspiration thus stand a better opportunity to clinch the party's guber ticket than any other aspirant.

“Before now, some guber aspirants were flocking to him seeking for his support. One of the aspirants from Owerri Zone even contributed to the senator’s empowerment programme held last year by donating some brand new buses to aid the senator’s programme in the senator’s Orlu geo political zone, just to woo him for his support

"This aspirant hoped that the Senator will back him for the guber ticket, but things have gone awry now since the senator body language indicated that he may contest” a party source told this blog.

Another aspirant on the PDP platform and ranking member of the Federal legislature is also said to be on war path on the senator over the latter’s ambition on the basis that it is the turn of Owerri Zone (Imo East) to produce the next governor of the State.

Senator Uzodinma is from Orlu Zone which has 12 local governments  and he is the only PDP aspirant from the area while Owerri Zone has 9 local Governments with over 16 governorship aspirants.
