Plot To Deny Owerri Zone Imo PDP Guber Ticket Uncovered

Owerri Zone (Imo East Senatorial District) is in for trouble as a plot within the ranks of PDP bigwigs in Imo State and in Abuja has been designed to deny the zone the PDP governorship ticket.

The arrowhead of the plot is a PDP chieftain from Orlu Zone (Imo North Senatorial Zone) with strong links to the party’s eggheads in Abuja.

He is said to have concluded plans to delve into the governorship race despite concern expressed on his aspiration.

Part of the plot is to weaken Owerri Zone.

He is said to be behind the aspiration of some PDP governorship aspirants from Owerri Zone.

This is said to be the reason why Owerri Zone has over 15 governorship aspiratnts from Owerri Zone alone.

The aim, according to a source is to weaken the numerical strength of party delegates and divide the votes of the delegates among the 15 aspirants from the zone.

The source said “:Sensing that Owerri Zone PDP leaders may ask some aspirants to step aside in order not to weaken or divide the bulk votes of delegates from Owerri, the Orlu political heavyweight is believed to have more than five governorship aspirants on his payroll. They will never step aside for anyone, no matter the pressure

Within the ranks of the party in Abuja, a good number of party heavyweights are behind this Orlu businessman cum politician whose aspiration has rankled the ranks of the PDP in Imo State.

The source continued “There will be primaries. But there will be a consensus. This candidate is used by some forces in the party in Abuja to halt the frenetic pace a Federal legislator who is also aspiring for the party’s guber ticket is moving.

This blog had reported this month that Owerri Zone desire to produce a governor in 2015 has suffered a hitch when Orlu PDP stakeholders met to say it will not halt its 2015 desire to replace its kinsman, Rochas Okorocha, with another son.

Okorocha is of the APC and does not have the backing of powerful political forces in Orlu Zone to return to a second term.

The Imo Governor is in the race for the Vice Presidential ticket of the APC but may opt to run for a  second term if his political mission in APC ends in futility.

But the PDP in Imo State has continuously distanced itself from any plot to impose anyone as the party’s flagbearer. Enyinnaya Onuegbu, the party’s acting Publicity scribe was not on sit at the PDP headquarters when This Blog visited to ask if there were plans to impose anyone as the party’s candidate.
