Forget Biafra, Buhari Tells Agitators

Those agitating for Biafra Republic should forget it as President Muhammadu Buhari says he will not tolerate the revived agitations.

In an interview with Al Jazzera during his recent visit to Qatar, Buhari said those agitating for it are jokers, stressing that the agitators are simply toying with the nation’s security.

Buhari said  “At least two million Nigerians were killed in the Biafra war. And for somebody to wake up, may be they weren’t born, looking for Biafra after two millions people were killed, they are joking with the security of the country. Nigeria won’t tolerate Biafra.”

He added that although his government will not hamper peaceful pro Biafran protests, the creation of the republic is against the constitution.

Agitation for Biafra Republic spearheaded by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had sparked wild protests in the South East and South regions.

Leader of the IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu is facing trial for treason. He was alleged to used pirate Radio Biafra to drum support for the agitation.

Kanu was granted bail last December but President Buhari in his maiden Presidential Media Chat said the pirate  Radio Biafra Director will jump bail if he is granted bail.

IPOB has continued to drum support for the release of Kanu from detention who is said to have dual citizenship.
