Fear and outrage has taken over residents of Imo
State over reports of the killings of
over 40 persons allegedly carried out by some fulaini herdsmen at Nimbo
in Uzo Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State last Monday.
Some of our reporters who went to town to sample the
opinion of the residents expressed shock over the gory incident and expressed
concern that if such barbaric act can take place in Enugu State, which is a
neighbouring State, there is every possibility that Imo State might be the next
target.
Chief Cosmas Reginald, a trader in Owerri main market said “if the
herdsmen can unleash such mayhem in Enugu and go scot free that means the
activities of the herdsmen may gradually spread to other States in the South
East including Imo State which is nearby.
“ I come from Ideato North, which is quite close to Anamba
State. That border between Anambra and
Enugu States is quite bushy and anything can happen.
“I want to use this opportunity to appeal to our
President to look into the matter before it escalates" he said .
Callers on a popular radio programme in Owerri, Peoples Assembly
on HOT FM condemned the attacks in strong terms and appealed to the state
government to put in place adequate security measures to prevent such menace
from spreading to Imo State since the State is barely few kilometers from Enugu
State.
Meanwhile, Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha has described has described the recent
massacre of inmocent citizens in Enugu State, as “very unfortunate, senseless
and barbaric”.

attacks and called on the State government to improve on the security network
of the State to forestall any unexpected attack from the herdsmen.

The Governor, who made his feelings known while addressing traditional rulers yesterday in Owerri, also appealed passionately, to President Muhammadu Buhari to “intervene as a matter of urgency in the repeated killings in the South-East by Fulani herdsmen, to forestall future occurrence”.
He charged traditional rulers in the State to take control of security in their respective communities and ensure also peaceful co- existence between their people and settlers.
Okorocha appealed for calm on the part of the people of Enugu State in particular and the south east in general, pointing out what the country needs at the moment is peace.
