INNONEWS. COM gathered that Imo State budgeted N141.2 billion naira for 2016, closely followed by Anambra and Ebonyi States that set aside N101.4 billion and N101.1 billion naira for the same year.
Enugu and Abia States set aside N85. I billion naria and N96.7 billion naria respectively.
Despite the huge budgetary allocation, the State is grappling with payment of workers’ salaries. Workers in the State were paid 70% of their salary for the month of January. Salaries for February, March and April are not yet forthcoming.
A non governmental organization, Citizens Centre for Integrated Development and Social Rights had expressed concern over the level of abandoned projects in the State

Ononamdu said based on a recent exercise conducted by his group, the projects
were started between 2014-2015 and only
32 (26.4%) were completed but mainly not accessible. According to him, 51 projects were ongoing for
over a minimum of six months which represents 42% of the total projects
monitored in the six local governments.
The
CCIDESOR director said Anambra State with less federal allocation has overtaken
Imo State in terms of development indices, stressing that while Imo State is
reducing salaries, Anambra State has increased the salaries of its workers.
“There
is free education in Imo State but Anambra State with affordable education has
now overtaken Imo State in NECO, WAEC and JAMB. There is serious problem in Imo
State if these issues are not addressed” he said
