Discontent
and total anger seem to have pervaded the All Progressive Congress, APC in Imo
State as chieftains of the party are annoyed over their deliberate exclusion
from federal appointments approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Their
anger stem from the fact that the President appointed APC chieftains from other
South East States particularly from Enugu State into key federal positions
excluding totally those from Imo State.
At the moment, only Prof Anthony Anwuka, Minister of State for Education, is the only Imo State indigene that has a federal appointment. He is the in law of Governor Rochas Okorocha.
The appointment
of Osita Okechukwu, the APC South East Zonal Publicity Secretary, as Director
General, Voice of Nigeria (VON) and the non- consideration of any of the APC
leaders from Imo State for ambassadorial positions seem to have fueled the annoyance
of the party leaders.
Recently,
President Buhari appointed career diplomats as ambassadors leaving out party officials
who had lobbied extensively for the positions.
INNONEWS.COM
last week met some party chieftains in Owerri who complained bitterly over how they were
never accommodated for federal appointments.
This
newspaper had reported in the past that despite series of meetings the leader
of the party in Imo State and State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, convened with
party chieftains in the State where the names of prospective appointees for
federal jobs from the party in the State were shortlisted; it is stunning that
none of them made the cut.
While many
seem to have absolved Okorocha of any wrong doing, the party chieftains however
contend that it is unfair for none of them to be
given a federal appointment despite how hard they fought to ensure that the APC
emerged victorious in Imo State during the 2015 general election.
One of the
party leaders who spoke on condition of anonymity said “we wonder what we have
done for us not be considered for federal appointment.
“We toiled day and night to deliver the APC in Imo State. You can recall that the party had a herculean task to market itself in Imo State because of the propaganda of the PDP in the State
" We succeeded in overcoming the plans of the PDP t o retake the State. As it is now, we are constnatly mocked by the PDP because they have seen nothing has been coming our way that now control the federal government.
"This is disheartening much as we understand that things are no longer the same and the President is battling to clear the mess the PDP heaped on the nation.
