Following media reports
that Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, was again planning to switch parties,
the Media Aide to the governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemodo, has dismissed the report as
untrue, saying that the governor was in no way contemplating leaving the All
Progressives Congress (APC) for any other party.
According to the governor’s
spokesman, the report did not cite any source from either the government circle
or elsewhere, but entirely relied on indications.
The statement partly reads:
“Governor Okorocha is now standing like a colossus in Imo politics with what he
has achieved as governor and his opponents in the state have resorted to
sniping at him through such false reports in the fruitless hope of salvaging
their political misfortune.”
Onwuemodo further asserted
that neither the PDP nor the PPA or APGA, as mentioned in the report, hold any
form of attraction to any progressive politician, and as such, there was no
justification for Okorocha to abandon a strong and vibrant political party like
the APC to join any of them.
According the media aide,
Okorocha cannot just leave the APC for any reason, having been one of the
leading lights in the formation of the party and presently enjoying wide
support from Nigerians across geopolitical zones, who look up to him in the APC
