Power Play In Imo Over Deputy Governor's Position

MADUMERE
If Governor Rochas Okorocha decides to shelve his intention to grab the APC Vice Presidential ticket and settle to contest for a second term as Imo Governor, it may ignite rumbles in the seat of power in Owerri, especially among key loyalists of the Governor.

A month ago, This Blog had reported that two of Governor Okorocha’s allies, the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere and his Chief of Staff, Sir Jude Ejiogu have been embroiled in a cold war on who takes Okorocha’s seat in the event he (Okorocha) decides to go for a higher office or who will be his running mate in the event the Imo Governor decides to seek re election

This has led to struggle for power thus compelling top government functionaries to align themselves to the political camps of the duo. The feud however later abated on the surface following the intervention of the governor who sued for calm.

With uncertainty now hanging on the political future of Okorocha, the cold war has gone from bad to worse with dangerous moves aimed at displacing the Deputy Governor before the 2015 elections becoming more intense.

A particular group made up of some high profile commissioners in Rochas cabinet are said to be lobbying the Governor to drop his Deputy and pick one of their own as running mate for the governorship election.

Some names have been bandied about for possible replacement but it was not confirmed if the Governor is likely to pander to the demands and interests of this new emerging bloc.
Madumere has been a long standing ally of the Imo Governor spanning over 20 years. He managed Okorocha’s foundation before he was appointed Chief of Staff when Rochas emerged Governor of Imo State.

After the impeachment of former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Jude Agbaso in controversial circumstances, Madumere was elevated to the Number 2 position of the State.

Sir Jude Ejiogu’s rating has soared since he was appointed Chief of Satff after handling a government agency that managed the internal generated funds of the State.

He is said to have earned the confidence of his boss and has grown large followership and political capital amongst Rescue mission disciples in the administration
