2019:Power Play In Imo PDP Ahead Of Congress, As Reconciliation Moves Begin At LGA Levels

The PDP in Imo State is currently enmeshed in serious power play that has engulfed  contending powerful political forces over who grabs the soul of the party before the  2019 elections come.

Despite the much trumpeted commitment of political leaders to dust up the old ways in the party which contributed to the defeat of the party in Imo State and at the centre, there are strong indications the major actors in the party are scheming to gain control of the party structure before then

INNONEWS was told that a prominent politician from Orlu and one of the party's henchmen is interested in the guber race on the PDP platform in 2019 and has drafted his foot-soldiers to go to work ahead of the party congress coming up next year.

Likely to face stiff opposition from other geo political zones such as Okigwe and Owerri zones for the PDP guber ticket in 2019, the PDP heavyweight have enlisted the support of  a  powerful group within the party to recruit footsoldiers across the three zones in the State that will take part in party's congress especially at  the ward and LGA levels.

The movement is led by a top party executive (names witheld) in the State

The source said " We are preparing for 2019. The coming election will not be business as usual. We know that Owerri zone is still very much interested in the race.

"We are aware that one of the tough guber aspirants from Owerri zone is very much interested in the contest in 2019.

" We will  not rest on our oars. Owerri zone has had its turn . It is not our fault that they did not succeed at the governorship election and you know Owerri zone sold out .

" The battle starts now. we want to reposition our great party for now. Congress is around the corner and we have begun the manhunt from now on. We must work as one family

Meanwhile, the party leadership is reconciling aggrieved parties in the PDP as the State Working Committee has been reconciling aggrieved factions in the LGAs ahead of the coming congress.
