Appeal Court Sack Imo Senator, Achonu

ACHONU

Appeal Court sitting in Owerri the capital of Imo state, has upheld the ruling of the Election Petition Tribunal which had earlier nullified the election of Sen. Athan Achonu, and ordered fresh election in Okigwe senatorial district within 90 days.


Achonu was declared winner of the March 28, 2015 senatorial election in Okigwe Zone (Imo North) by the National Electoral Commission, INEC, having contested under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Senator Achonu had approached the Appeal Court demanding that the rulling of the Tribunal be reversed.


The Tribunal had taken the decision upon the joint Petition filed by Accord Party and the All Progressive Congress, APC candidate at the election, Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu.
