Despite a subsisting court order stopping a caretaker committee constituted for the Imo State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from assuming duty, the committee today mounted the saddle of leadership of the party.
Chairman of the Committee, Vitalis Okafor, a PDP member from Anambra State said he is not aware of such an order from the court. He said he has not been served the order and until then, he and his committee members are in charge of the affairs of the party in Imo State.
The PDP in Imo State has lately been enmeshed in a fresh crisis as the sacked State party executives secured a court order stopping the newly constituted caretaker committee from assuming duty.
Chairman and Secretary of the party, Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie and George Eguh, had approached a State High Court in Owerri where they challenged the composition of the committee.
The High Court presided over by Justice C.A Ononeze Madu stopped the Imo State PDP Caretaker Committee from assuming office at the State party office in Owerri pending the determination of a suit brought before it by the State Chairman and Secretary.
The Court also granted leave to the State Chairman and Secretary of the PDP to apply for judicial review in terms of the reliefs sought in the statement and grounds in support of the application.
