The Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State (FUTO)
remain a blessing to the host communities.

FUTO is located in the heart of three communities in Owerri West Local
Government Area namely Eziobodo, Ihiagwa and Obinze.

There have been allegations of non- and inadequate compensation for land to
the host communities, an allegation sharply dispelled by the Deputy Vice
Chancellor of the institution, Prof Francis Eze.

Speaking to newsmen in his office, Eze said since 1993 FUTO relocated
from Owerri to Ihiagwa community it has significantly contributed to the development
of the neighbouring communities.

Eze said several projects have been carried out by the institution for the
host communities which has really translated to socio- economic development of the
area.

He added that the relationship with the host communities has been cordial,
describing reports of non compensation for land as pure misinformation and ignorance, stressing that the  land use decree is quite clear on the issue of land use and
allocation.

He said FUTO has maintained its corporate responsibility to the host
communities in the area by offering jobs to qualified youths and admission to
deserving students.

The DVC also assured that the institution will not relent in their responsibility towards
the communities, adding that the citadel of learning is committed to the
overall good of the communities.
