Senator Samuel Anyanwu says Imo Workers deserve better treatment from the State government.
In a statement signed by the senator who represents Imo East Senatorial District, Senator Anyanwu said he is concerned over the unhealthy incidents between the Imo State government and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC caused by the unpopular policy of concession that has led to the sack of over 3,000 workers.

He expressed regret that the Okorocha administration which had sacked 10,000 Youths gainfully employed by the previous administration could sack another 3,000 workers under the guise of concession bringing the number of sacked workers in Imo State to 13,000.

He said as a senator representing Owerri Zone (Imo East) and a stakeholder in Imo State, the current situation in the State is a clear manifestation of his disapproval and discontentment.

While he expressed concern “that government globally are facing retardation, and also finding avenues to navigate the period, it is expected that every action towards the realization of this objective must be seen to be fair and balanced”

“Governments all over the world are for the welfare and well being of the people  and anything less can be anti-people, and could descend to the Hobbian idea of life being brutish and short” he said

He expressed concern that sister States such as Anambra has increased the salaries of workers while Abia and Cross River States have lifted embargo on employment.

“It is instructive to note that Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has ordered payment of January salary on the 15th January, 2016.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I may not wish to compare Imo State with other States of the federation because of their distinct peculiarities, but every discerning mind would want to know the magic wand these States deployed in remaining afloat in the face of this economic challenges which our dear State could invent” the senator stated.

He said he is pained to know that Imo workers who have made selfless sacrifices to bring the State to where it is today could be made to be at the centre of the imbroglio.

Senator Anyanwu expressed concern over the state of health centers in the State, stressing that the alleged brutal attacks on heath centers and medical personnel is most regrettable.

He appealed to the Imo State government and Labour to sheath their swords and give peace a chance, advising that the government should have negotiated with labour before iniating these policies and negotiate after the policy has been implemented.

“I therefore urge government to rescind its decision on the sack of workers in order to negotiate with labour to find an acceptable way of going about the policy in line with global best practices”.

“I also appeal to our revered religious leaders, Traditional Rulers, Elder Statesmen, Leaders of Thought, Elder Statesmen and indeed all well meaning citizens of the State to kindly wade into the crisis to save our State from this disaster waiting to happen. It is an ill wind that blows no good” the Senator advised.
