The Imo State
Government is said to have reeled out a riot act to intending striking workers
of the State.
A competent source
revealed to INNONEWS.COM that Commissioners heading various ministries in the
State met with Heads of Department/ Directors in their Ministries and instructed
them to stop workers in the ministries from proceeding with the strike.
The directive is coming
on the heels of a planned strike by Imo workers on Monday, 8th
February, 2016.
The source said “The
Commissioners met with the HOD’s and Directors, telling them to stop their
workers from going on strike on Monday. Those who fail to heed the instruction
by proceeding with the planned strike will be sacked from the Service
This directive is
coming on the heels of reports that Labour in the State have concluded plans to
proceed on strike to express their displeasure over the sack of workers in some
state government run parastatals and agencies.
The Leadership of
Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC is expected to lead the strike.
INNONEWS.COM had
reported that the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC had vowed to move against the
Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha over his sack of some workers in the
State.
It also says it will
declare “national action” on Imo State if the action is not reversed
The NLC accused the Imo
State government of surreptitiously sacking workers in the State, and vowed to
shut down the government.
Rising after its
National Executive Council meeting on Friday, the Labour Union said it would
“mobilize to Imo State shut it down as a response to Governor Okorocha’s
consistent anti- labour policies, impunity and retrenchment of workers, in
spite of his promises to the leadership of the Congress that he would not take
such decisions.
“Congress also resolved
to take a national action in respect of Imo if necessary” he said
