Ousted Imo PDP Exco Battle Caretaker Commitee (UPDATE)

. Secure Court Order Stopping Interim Leadership From Assuming Duty.

.Insist Tenure Will Elapse After Congress

BY EZE EGEJURU
The PDP in Imo State is now enmeshed in a fresh crisis as the embattled State party executives has secured a court order stopping the newly constituted caretaker committee from assuming duty.

Chairman and Secretary of the party, Barr Nnamdi Anyaehie and George Eguh, had approached a State High Court in Owerri where they challenged the composition of the committee.

The High Court presided over by Justice C.A Ononeze Madu  stopped the Imo State PDP Caretaker Committee from assuming office at the State party office in Owerri pending the determination of a suit brought before it by the State Chairman and Secretary.

The Court also granted leave to the State Chairman and Secretary of the PDP to apply for judicial review in terms of the reliefs sought in the statement and grounds in support of the application.

INNONEWS.COM gathered that the Chairman (Anyaehie) and Secretary (Eguh) had in their affidavit and written address submitted that their tenure will only terminate after the State congress scheduled for March.

They challenged the competence of the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus who inaugurated the Caretaker Committee, stressing that he had been removed from office from a competent jurisdiction and can therefore not act in that capacity.

They contend that it is the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party and not the National Working Committee (NWC) that can constitute a Caretaker Committee for a State chapter of the party.

The Court granted the prayers sought by the claimants and adjourned the case for substantive hearing and determination of the matter to February 11, 2016.
