A top chieftain of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State has entered into talks with a State governor
of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the North over 2019 Imo governorship
race.

The PDP chief from Imo State has his
sights on the 2019 governorship contest of the State.
He is wooing a top APC governor in
the North who has strong ties with President Muhammadu Buhari to be
"favourably considered as the best alternative” to Governor Rochas
Okorocha who will want to install his successor as Imo State governor in 2019.
A source who revealed this
information to INNONEWS.COM at the weekend said the discussion between
the PDP chieftain from Imo State and the APC Northern governor has reached an
advanced stage.
However, one of the conditions said
to have been given to the Imo PDP chief to realize his ambition is that he has
to cross over to the ruling party before “other issues could be tabled for
discussions”.
This condition issued to the Imo PDP
henchman has made him return to the trenches where he is pondering over the
issue with few of his close political associates.
A source in the politician’s camp
who resides in high brow area of Abuja, told this online newspaper, that in a
matter of weeks, the top Imo PDP chief will unveil his position possibly after
the PDP congresses where fresh executives for the ward and local governments
chapters of the party will be elected.
“The need to wait for the congress
is to see how he will take control of the party structure especially at the
local government and State levels. That will greatly determine if he will stay put
in the PDP. If that fails, he may consider other options including a move to
the ruling party if his demands are well accommodated by the top leaders
of the APC” the source said.
The source who spoke on
condition of anonymity said "At the moment, the PDP chief from Imo State
is very much involved in the scramble for the PDP structure in the State as he
is jostling for it with other several political heavyweights in the party who are also eying the Imo governorship contest with him.
Last week, this online newspaper
reported that a serving senator in the PDP in Imo State is rounding up a
possible “swap deal” with a serving APC governor in the region.
The deal, according to our sources,
entails the senator decamping to the APC; pick the party’s governorship ticket
and contest, while the governor will take the senator’s senatorial seat.Both the South East APC governor and
PDP senator are from the same senatorial zone.
It will be recalled that some key PDP politicians had
decamped from the party during the twilight of the 2015 Imo governorship
supplementary election.
