.New SSG May Emerge Next Week

Top chieftains of the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC in Imo State
have intensified lobby to be appointed the new Secretary to Imo State
Government
Imo State Governor, Rohas Okorocha had last week sacked Jude Ejiogu, his long time ally, from the SSG position. A new SSG may be announced next week after the Easter holidays, a source told this online newspaper.
Multiple sources however said the Governor, some family members and his close political associates have been besieged by political loyalists who are scrambling for the position.
One of them is a former federal lawmaker who represented Owerri federal constituency between 1999 and 2003 in the House of Representatives. He is from Imo East Senatorial zone, the zone the former sacked SSG comes from.
Hon Uche Onyeagocha was the APC senatorial candidate for Imo East but lost to PDP’s Hon Samuel Anyannwu. He has been loyal to Okorocha and he is said to be "considered" for the plum job.
INNONEWS.COM was also told by some kitchen cabinet members of the Okorocha administration that the next SSG “ is been tailored to come from Imo East Senatorial zone (Owerri)"
He said "This is to not only placate the zone for the sack of Ejiogu but also re- demonstrate the governor’s gratitude to them for voting for Okorocha for a second term despite the strong presence of PDP governorship candidate from the area, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha in the 2015 governorship elections in Imo State”
Another Okorocha loyalist said to be in contention also from Imo East senatorial Zone is a former commissioner, Eng Alaribe who comes from Aboh Mbaise LGA, the home local government of former PDP governorship candidate, ex Deputy Speaker and new opposition leader in the State, Hon Emeka Ihedioha.
Alaribe has held several positions in Okorocha’s government. Sources said he may be considered to weaken the opposition which is considered so strong in Mbaise axis in Imo East Senatorial zone.
Okorocha won re- election for the second term as Imo State governor by successfully dividing Imo East senatorial zone with the support of key of his political associates in the zone.
However, there are other contenders from other zones- Imo North and Imo West senatorial zones with Imo North coming up strong for the position.
No name was bandied about to be named the new SSG from the area but a top politician with strong administrative competence is said to have been approached by some government officials to take up the position.
“ I can tell you that he has been consulted. The office of the SSG is not a political post. It is purely administrative. And his Excellency is more interested in competence than all this political sentiments bandied about by some lobbyists” a source close to Government House, Owerri told our reporter.
