13 Jostle For Imo PDP Chair, As Ihedioha, Uzodinma Flex Muscles

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party will hold its State Congress, Tuesday, May 10, 2016 to elect the state executive members of the party.

As at last night, 13 persons have indicated interest to vie for the chairmanship seat of the party.

The state chairmanship seat has been zoned to Okigwe zone (Imo North senatorial zone) which tactically takes off former governor Ikedi Ohakim from the guber contest.

The State Chairman and the party’s governorship candidate have not come from one zone. If this remains the case, then it is a straight battle between Senator Hope Uzodinma and former Deputy Speaker, House of Reps, Emeka Ihedioha who are desperate to produce the State party chair.

Of the 13 candidates vying for the party's top job, five of them are front runners in the race.

They include a a former Transition Committee chairman of Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, LGA,  Chief Sam Osuji, former Transition Committee chairman of Okigwe LGA, Ikemba Babatunde Ezekwem and a former member of the state house of Assembly, Hon Ngozi Ogbu.

Political horse-trading, lobbying, consultations and in some cases have dominated the campaigns since last week. It was gathered that almost all the hotels in Owerri have been booked for the delegates, just as a prominent politician in the party is galvanizing support for his preferred candidate.

The state congress is expected to hold a Rosy Arts Theatre, located in Ikenegbu layout, in the heart of Owerri.
