The All
Progressive Congress, APC in the South East has told the Peoples Democratic
Party, PDPD that it will take over the South East region from the opposition
party in 2019.
The PDP
controls the South East with three State Governors and majority of members of
the National Assembly.
This
declaration was made by the State Chairmen of APC in the South East after their
meeting on Saturday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi
State.
The Imo
State Chairman of the APC, Sir Hilary Eke said the party chairmen remain
optimistic of achieving this feat based on its recent tour to the South East
states which is aimed at strengthening the party structure ahead of future
elections in the region.
He said the
party chairmen will work closely to ensure that the PDP does not have control
of the south east anymore.
He said“We are going round the South East
states to ensure that the APC is intact.
“And I
want to assure you in case many of you do not know that in 2019, APC will take
over all the States in this zone”
“PDP is
still in Ebonyi State not because the people voted for them but because they
have the opportunity to rig”
Eke
advised the state chapter of the APC to engage in meetings regularly in order
to bring members together.
On his
part, the Abia State Chairman of the APC, Donatus Nwamba said the party must
strategize to win the election in the South East in 2019.
He said “We
don’t want one party system and our president has said it severally and we will
not be part of it, but we will win South East in 2019.
“Because
when PDP was in power, we were regarded as visitors, we were regarded as
renegades. But now we are in charge. So, come May 29, 2019, we must win the
South East” he said
The Enugu
State Chairman of the APC, Ben Nwonye, urged members to be focused and
consistent, while his Ebonyi State counterpart, Ben Nwobasi, expressed
gratitude to his colleagues for attending the meeting. He said the meeting has strengthened the party
in the State.
