The planned PDP State Congress did
not hold today, May 10, 2016 as planned. The exercise was shifted by 24 hours
for reasons that are unclear to many.
It was gathered that key
stakeholders in the party are scrambling to ensure one of their own emerge the
party’s chair, just as reports filtered in that a powerful politician in the party and a
governorship hopeful is backing a member of the sacked executives for the party's top job.
Party sources said the Okigwe zone
(Imo North senatorial zone) will take the chairmanship seat based on the principle of zoning which was applied in all positions
Last night several interest groups
were locked in nocturnal meetings. Top leaders of Owerri (Imo East) and Okigwe
zone (Imo North) were said to have engaged in marathon discussions ostensibly
to back a single candidate for the party’s top job from Okigwe zone.
This is said to be a grand ploy to
stave off any other candidate coming from Orlu Zone (Imo North) where Senator
Hope Uzodinma hold sway.
