IMSU Lecturers Suspend Strike

Lecturers of Imo State University have suspended their four month old strike action. Reports reaching INNONEWS.COM indicate that the ASUU IMSU chapter officially suspended the strike yesterday, June 21st, 2016.

The suspension of the strike is said to be based on a new memorandum of understanding between the State Government and the Academic staff Union of Universities – ASUU Imsu Chapter.
.
Members of the union were said to have voted unanimously for the suspension of the already lingered strike action.

They further revealed that their struggle so far has been for the best interest of the students and for the effective management of the University.

Before the strike was suspended, students of the tertiary institution had embarked on a peaceful protest in Owerri calling on the State government to resolve the impasse with the ASUU IMSU.

Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha ostensibly peeved with the lecturers action threatened to privatize the institution if they fail to call off the strike. The lecturers who lamented over non payment of salaries called the Governor's bluff which eventually led to today's suspension of the strike.
