Eminent Nigerians at the weekend stormed Owerri Imo State capital  to pay their last respect and  express their condolences to the family of Chief Nath Onyeukwu (Ikemba Owerre) whose wife; Lolo Catherine Nnenna Onyeukwu was interred on Saturday July 2, 2016 in Owerri.

Among those present at the funeral include Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, Minister of Science And Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu , representatives of the national leadership of All Progressive Congress led by National Vice Chairman, South East, Hon Emma Eneukwu,  some members of the  Imo State House of Assembly led by the Majority leader,  Hon Lugard Osuji, former secretary to Imo State Government, Sir Jude Ejiogu,  top federal civil servants, political and community leaders, the judiciary, media executives among others

Gov Okorocha while consoling members of the Onyeukwu family said the passage of late Lolo Onyeukwu was indeed painful not because she died prematurely but because of what she represented at the home and the church.

Okorocha stated that he wished that she lived longer, but urged the family to be consoled by the fact that no one can question God.

He prayed God to grant Chief Onyeukwu’s family the heart to bear the irreparable loss.

In his message, the minister of science and technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu described the transition of Lolo Onyeukwu as a personal loss and a priceless asset of immense value to his children.

Onu who was accompanied to the funeral by his wife, Lady Chinyere, and some Directors General of parastatals and agencies under his ministry, said he is consoled by the fact that Lolo Onyeukwu left behind an accomplished husband whose contributions to national development remain a worthy source of inspiration to many.

In his condolence message, former Imo State Governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim said Lolo Onyeukwu was not just a wife but a pillar of strength from wherein the entire family drew strength. Ohakim said she was visionary, caring and subtle in her ways and these qualities endeared her to many.

Ohakim noted that the death of this amazon is a great loss which has created a vacuum in the lives of so many, urging the Onyeukwu family to take solace in the fact that she lived a fulfilled life worthy of emulation and her exemplary roles in community development will be appreciated in this generation and those to come.

In his message, former Abia State Governor, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu described the late matriarch of the Onyeukwu family as an accomplished and principled woman who never brought forward her own needs but always sought the good of the people in the community.

“I have no doubt that mama will be greatly missed. I however take solace in the fact that good women do not die, as their deeds live in our consciousness long after they have departed. Mama was a good woman and her memories will forever live with us” Kalu stated.
  
Also in his condolence message to the family, the senator representing Imo East Senatorial district, Senator Samuel Anyanwu said he received the news of the demise of the matriarch of the Onyeukwu family with sadness but Prayed God to provide the family with all the wisdom and comfort of knowing that longevity is a blessing.
He said on behalf of his family and the entire people of Imo East senatorial district, he sends his condolences to the family.    

Speaking in an open air funeral service, the presiding Bishop of Praise Centre Church International and Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Bishop Stafford Nwaogu called on Christians to emulate  the life of Lolo Onyeukwu whom he described as a  devoted Christian committed to the things of the lord.

He recalled that the late matriarch showed outstanding devotion to the things of the lord won the “Golden Mother” award of the church twice, pointing Christians should emulate the virtues of late Catherine.
