Owerri Market Women On Mass Protest Over Govt's Plan To Relocate Ancestral Market

 

Women of the five communities in Owerri municipal are protesting the planned relocation of the ancient Eke Ukwu Owerre market by the Imo State Government.

The State Governor, Rochas Okorocha had told newsmen on Wednesday that there is no going back on the relocation of the market.

Okorocha said the market has created filth in the city and defaced Owerri metropolis
.

" Eke Ukwu market has moved already. It will be taken to Egbeada community" he said.

Egbeada community is in Owerri West Local Government Area.
 
The planned relocation of the market has stirred fresh rivarly between the State Government and Owerri indigenes. 

The indigenes say the market is over 400 years old.  According to them, the market is an ancestral one that has spiritual and cultural affinity with the people.... MORE DETAILS LATER..
