Fear Grips Non Indigenous Workers In Imo

Tension and fear has gripped non indigenous workers in Imo State Civil Service over a circular purported to have emanated from the office of the newly appointed Head of Service, Dr(Mrs) Nkechi Onumajulu.

The circular was said to have directed all ministries, parastatals and government agencies to compile names of non indigenous workers in the State workforce.

This blog was told that this has instilled fear among non indigenous workers in the State who are scared stiff that the compilation might be a measure by the Imo State Government to tow the path of reprisal against Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State.

The Abia State Government had in February 2012 sacked hundreds of non indigenous workers in the Abia State Civil service. The worst hit by this measure were Imo State workers who constitute the bulk of the State workforce in Abia State.

Despite persistent appeals by well meaning Igbo leaders who see the measure towed by Governor Orji as detrimental to the renewed task to promote Igbo unity, Orji has maintained his hardline posture

It was gathered that at the Imo State secretariat, Owerri, that the compilation of names of non indigenous workers has raised suspicion among the non indigenous workers and also compelled indigenous workers to begin eying top positions occupied by their non indigenous counterparts.

A local tabloid in Owerri reported that this is the first time since the creation of Imo State such a list is compiled, thus increasing suspicion that the State Government might be poised to take an action against them
