Imo Assembly Chief Whip Resigns

The Chief Whip of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo has resigned his position.

His resignation is seen as a move to placate the opposition PDP in the State. Ozuruigbo, who represents Nwangele State Constituency, was among other PDP members who defected to the ruling party in the State, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Ozuruigbo’s resignation increases the number of PDP members in the House and pose a threat to APGA’s control of the 27 member Imo legislative House.

Ozuruigbo and four others including the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Benjamin Uwajumuogu were elected on the platform of the PDP but decamped to APGA after being sworn in as principal officers of the Imo legislature.

The PDP in a fierce reaction to their decampment went to court to challenge their defection.
