UWAJUMUOGU... Imo Speaker |
Knocks have come the way of the
Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) as the Imo State House of Assembly,
last week took a swipe at the anti graft agency for arresting the State Commissioner
of Finance, Deacon Chike Okafor and the Accountant General.
The House in a statement by the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Benjamin Uwajumuogu
and signed by his Aide on Media, Ikenna
Samuelson Iwuoha, said the arrest of the two senior government officials in the Okorocha Adminstration was
strange because all financial transactions of the Okorocha Administration since inception
has followed Due Process and has the consent of the House.
Speaker Uwajumuogu described the EFCC action as diversionary and capable
of distracting the purpose driven rescue mission of the present Administration in Imo State.
The Speaker wondered why the commission is keeping mum on widespread
allegations of fraud perpetrated by the Ikedi Ohakim Administration which the
anti graft agency has been notified of.
Part of the Statement reads ‘ The Imo State House of Assembly is currently
looking into issues of illegal loans facilities obtained by the previous
government in the State for which the
EFCC is yet to make any arrest despite petitions to them’
It will be recalled that the commission last week arrested two government
officials of the present government in apparent response to series of petitions
bordering on mismanagement of funds accrued to the State since Governor Okorocha
came on board on the ship of governance of Imo State on May 29, 2011.
The duo were later released after providing two sureties
