As part of its efforts to fortify
its political structure in Imo State, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is
wooing the senator representing Imo East Senatorial District, Senator Chris
Anyanwu back to it fold.
Senator Anyanwu is of the All
Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
She first vied for the senatorial
seat in 2007 on the PDP platform before cross carpeting to APGA in 2011 where
she won re election to the senate defeating the current PDP National Woman
leader, Dr (Mrs) Kema Chikwe.
The PDP is in opposition in Imo
State after losing the governorship seat to Rochas Okorocha who won the polls
on the platform of APGA.
Meanwhile, the senator has discountenanced
the report that she is heading back to the PDP. Speaking to this blog on phone,
the senator’s media aide, Evarest Ezihe, said senator Anyanwu remains in APGA
as she in corroboration with stakeholders of the party are strengthening APGA in Imo State.
He said recently, the senator convened
a stakeholders meeting of the party in her capacity as leader of APGA in Imo
State where far reaching measures were taken to solidify the party in Imo.
Ezihe however admitted that the senator
is not unmindful of the advances of the PDP, stating that at the moment she is
concerned on her duties as senator representing Imo East Senatorial district.
Senator Anyanwu is having a
running political battle with the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha which
got its climax on December 26, 2012 when the security details attached to the
Governor’s convoy allegedly assaulted senator Anyanwu’s driver.
Before then, they had worked hand
in gloves to oust Ikedi Ohakim of the PDP as governor of Imo State in the May
6, 2011 governorship election.
