Shocking! 187 Hotels In Owerri Metropolis, says Owerri Community Leader

Startling revelations emerged yesterday that there are over 187 hotels scattered in Owerri metropolis, Imo State capital alone.

Of this number, 46 hotels are located at World Bank Housing Estate where Owerri indigenes have most of their land.  Of this number, there are 5 operational nude outlets in the area despite the order of Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha that such outlets should be shut.

Most of the hotels are situated on areas made for residential houses and mainly owned by Owerri indigenes.

Making this disclosure to newsmen in Owerri, the President General, Owerri community Assembly (OCA), Oweaya Christian Anukam said most of the hotels are situated on areas made for residential houses and mainly owned by Owerri indigenes

He said the dangers inherent from the prevalence of hotels are capable of stimulating and promoting moral decadence in the State if it is not properly checked and controlled.

He called for the peaceful resolution of all land matters such as Area k land dispute that has put the State Government and the people of Amawom community on collision course, advocating that the matter should be amicably resolved before calamity befalls anyone on the issue. He strongly advised that the State Government should cease to dialogue with individuals but with Amawom Welfare Association (AWA)

Anukam praised Governor Rochas Okorocha for carrying out massive infrastructural renewal in Owerri, adding that he has done well in other sectors by providing free education and embarked on massive construction of schools, hospitals and other amenities to boost development in the State.

He noted that the people of Owerri have benefited immensely from Okorocha’s rescue mission, emphasizing that the three bridges recently constructed by the Rescue government is an attestation of his commitment to the development of the municipality.
He said “These three bridges were waterways in the past. The one he constructed at Edede by Royce Road. It was used by Umuonyeche people, just like the Umez Eronini bridge used by Amawom people”

He praised the Governor for encouraging the first lady to introduce the SNARP projects that is driven to  reduce poverty amongst indigent women in the rural areas.
