With few
months to primaries to elect a governorship candidate for the PDP in Imo State, this blog
can authoritatively reveal that most of the aspirants have upped the ante in
their aggression to clinch the party’s guber ticket by engaging in various forms of conventional and unconventional political tactics
We had
reported last month that most of the aspirants especially those who stay in Abuja
frequently visit the places of abode of one to PDP chieftain or the other where
they canvass the need for them to be the party’s flag-bearer.
This time,name
dropping and blackmail have also become the weapon for the contenders, all in a
bid to outwit the other.
Some have
also employed the services of hack writers as well who make effective use of
social media such as facebook to spread falsehood and blackmail fellow political
opponents in the contest.
While most
of them have returned back to Abuja for the Easter celebration after taking part in
series of political activities including a Fund Raising held in Owerri , a good
number of them are seriously engaged in intense
lobbying of the party’s eggheads in Abuja.
There is a
general belief amongst some of them them that whoever will fly the party’s flag in the
governorship election will be influenced by Abuja despite the pronouncement by
the party’s national chairman, Adamu Muazu that only free, fair and credible primaries
will produce the party’s candidate.
A source in
the party who spoke to this blog from Abuja, said the frequency of Imo PDP
governorship aspirants to the homes of those who call the shots in the party in
Abuja is alarming and crazy.
The source
said "Sometimes, I wonder when they have the time to put their campaign organizations in order. Is the battle won in Abuja. They forget that the old order is no longer feasible in PDP. Are they the only ones vying for election. They besiege the homes of these bigmen and
most times, they come here to blackmail one another. They forget this will
portray them in bad light. Is Imo State the only State where the PDP
desperately wants back power?”
