Among those axed by the
party after 2015 governorship election include Prof Nnamdi Obiareri, Chief
Gibson Njemanze (Oyiga), Chief Rex Anunobi, Barr Humphrey Anumudu, Chief Jerry
Chukwueke, among others.
The PDP in Imo State at
the weekend announced the lifting of suspension and expulsion of some party
members whom it accused of sabotaging the party’s effort to win the 2015
governorship election.
Some of the affected
politicians who spoke to INNONEWS.COM said they are considering the option and
offer based on the fact that some of them have already pitched their political
tenth with ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.
Obiareri, Oyiga,
Anunobi, Anumudu, Chukwueke who were expelled by the PDP have all joined the All Progressive Congress, APC
in Imo State
However, one of the affected politicians who
spoke to this online newspaper on condition of anonymity said while he salutes the party for lifting the
expulsion, it is an offer that came too late.
He said “For me, the lifting of the expulsion
order is too late. I have already joined the APC and I will remain here for a
long time to come.
“The decision by the
PDP to sack some of us then without giving us fair hearing at that time was
hasty. Some of the allegations against us were false.
“I wrote to the party
chairman then that their decision was taken in a hurry. That letter was never
replied. We were demonized in the media and everybody thought we were the cause
of the party’s failure at the polls.
He continued “The question is why did we leave
the PDP and joined the APC at that time? Have those factors which made some of us
to leave vanished in the party?
“I left because some of
the actions of the party leaders then were geared towards heading the party to a
dooms at the elections.
“I believe that if the PDP
must get it right and truly want those it expelled to come back they have to do
away with those things that gets one irritated to leave the party.
“Is there true reconciliation
in Imo PDP now? Look at what is happening at the local Governments, virtually all
the LGA chapters are in crisis over various issues which range from
embezzlement of party funds to lack of internal democracy” he concluded
However, mixed reactions have continued to
trail the lifting of suspension of party members as this newspaper gathered
that a leading member of the party is furious with the party decision.
The top party leader
who claimed to have spent a whopping N1.8 billion to fund his election largely
accused the expelled party members of causing his downfall and sabotaging the
party at the April 2015 polls in Imo
State.
A party source close to
the high ranking party official said “Bringing back those who sabotaged the PDP
in Imo State is a wrong move. We need to keep them in abeyance for now. PDP
cannot be planning of moving forward by allowing these saboteurs to return to
the party so early.
He said “The only way we can get back to winning
ways is to get rid of anyone with tendencies to sabotage the party. We must
work with committed, loyal and dedicated members.
“We need those in the
grassroots to work for the party. The last elections reveled that big names no
longer win elections.
A member of the State
Working Committee of the PDP, Barr C.O.C Akaolisa did not go into details why
the PDP in Imo State decided to recall suspended members. He only confirmed the
story to INNONEWS.COM.
But a party chieftain
said one of the major reasons for lifting the suspension order was to rebuild
the party ahead of the forthcoming congress.
