The
Imo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has reacted to
molestation of three journalists by men of the Nigeria Security and Civil
Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Owerri, Imo State last Saturday
INNONEWS.COM
had exclusively reported that three journalists namely Tope Kuteyi of Channels
Television, Mr. Obioma Oburuoga of African Independent Television (AIT) and
Nnamdi Ofonye of Silverbird Tv were manhandled by NSCDC officials.
In
a statement signed by the State Chairman of Imo NUJ, Mr. Innocent Igwe, the
Union condemned the attack by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and
NSCDC.
He
described the attack as unwarranted, excessive and abusive use of force by the
officers involved.
It
viewed the incident and brutality as uncalled for and profoundly embarrassing.
According to the NUJ, the officers of FRSC and NSCDC on vehicle check threw caution to the wind simply because the three journalists appealed to them to release a car carrying a woman in labour in order to avert human casualty.
