.PDP Plotted To Rig By Infiltrating
INEC- APC
BY GRACE IGWEANYI
INEC
on Friday, February 19th, 2016, suspended the polls in the area and
in some local Governments such as Isiala Mbano, Oru East and Owerri West where the Assembly seats were vacant.
The electoral umpire cited security reasons for suspending the polls.
Two
PDP chieftains in the State, Jasper Ndubuaku and Pope Ekwe who spoke during a
radio progarmme in Owerri on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, said there was no justification for INEC to cancel
the election based on the protest of some hired youths sponsored by the APC
government in the State.
Ndubuaku,
who was a member of the Imo State House of Assembly, said the youths who
carried out the protest in front of INEC office on Friday were instigated and
sponsored and led by a former commissioner in the Okorocha administration.
The
former lawmaker said “The hemp smoking youths came from Ogboko, the governor’s
village and they were instigated. We
expected the security agencies to quell the protesters on a day the Inspector
General of Police was in the State. This
is did not happen.
“The
protests by the youths were not enough reason for INEC to cancel the election.
The commission’s reasons are baseless. We believe INEC and the security agencies have
taken sides. And we wonder what some Commissioners in the State were doing at
INEC office while the protest was going on” the two time lawmaker said.
The
former political Adviser to former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohaki, alleged that the APC was
afraid of defeat in the election and had plans of rigging it, alleging that his
party uncovered plans of some APC chieftains who were forging election results even
before the elections.
In
a fierce reaction to PDP’s allegations, an APC Chieftain in the State, Chief
Raymond Ukoha told INNONEWS.COM on phone that the PDP were desperate to grab
the Imo North Senatorial seat by
contributing huge funds to buy off some INEC officials.
“If
they were confident of victory, why did they resort to infiltrate INEC? We know all these. PDP has never won any election in Imo State
in a free and fair manner. Because this is a new era where such impunity is no
longer tolerated, they are finding it difficult to cope.
“That
era of writing results in the comfort of their homes is gone. There is change
now. Change is all about free and fair elections. The PDP in Imo State is never
used to winning elections in free and fair manner.
“
The APC is sure of victory in the re run any time any day in Imo North” he said
.
The heat and tension the cancellation of the re run has heightened concerns if the election will take place as soon as possible.
