Abia North Senatorial Re Run:Kalu's Votes May Halt Victory For PDP

.APC, APGA Candidates Put Up Dismal Outing

KALU
There is a tight race in the Abia North Senatorial election re run held yesterday, March 5, 2016.

The PDP candidate, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa won four of the five local government areas in the zone with over 26,000 votes.

His close rival, former Abia State Governor and candidate of the Progressive Peoples Allianec (PPA), Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu  won his Bende Local Government Area. Despite winning in one local Government, the votes from his home base significantly reduced the votes of Senator Ohuabunwa.

The All Progressive Congress, APC candidate, Nnenna Mma Lancaster-Okoro is trailing in a distant fourth position with 916 votes, after  overtaken by the All Progressive Grand Alliance Candidate (APGA), Dr. David Onuoha- Bourdex who polled 13,000 votes.

Media reports said the cancelled votes is over 26,000 votes which is far higher than the margin of 195 votes between the PDP and PPA candidates which has increased speculations that the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC  may declare the polls inconclusive.

The result from Bende Local government area, according to political pundits, is perceived as  the game-changer for the former governor of the state and candidate of the Progressives Peoples Alliance, Orji Uzor Kalu, with over 14, 000 votes as against the 5, 000 of the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.

The over 9, 000 deficit significantly reduced the over 10, 000 lead of the PDP candidate, who won the other four local government areas of the state.

Difference in final votes between Senator Ohuabunwa and Chief Kalu is over 195 votes between Senator Ohuabunwa and former Governor Orji Kalu.
