Imo Assembly Passes Vote Of Confidence On Imo Police Chief

The Imo State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo F. Lakanu.

The confidence vote was said to have been passed sequel to the antecedents and proven track records of the CP.

It was said that Lakanu’s positive interference in security challenges in the state has enhanced the relative peace and political stability, the state is presently enjoying.

 In a letter to the CP confirming the vote of confidence dated February 25, 2016, signed by the Clerk of the House, Sir Chris Duru and made available to our correspondent on Saturday, the House said, “I wish to convey to you, Imo State House of Assembly Resolution passed during its plenary sitting on Thursday, February 25, 2016”

"During the said sitting, Imo State House of Assembly resolved to pass a vote of confidence on you, Mr. Taiwo F. Lakanu on your performances in the state over security challenges. Please accept, Commissioner of Police, the assurances of our highest regards.”

Speaking to our correspondent on the vote, the member representing Oru West State Constituency, Mr. Donatus O. Onuigwe described that CP Lakanu as a bridge – builder.
He said, “The professional ingenuity and wisdom exhibited by the police boss in the crisis at Osemotor in Oguta Local Government Area of the State could be better imagined that expressed. His interference in the matter brought a lasting peace in the area, which if not well managed could have caused mayhem in the entire state”.

In the same development, the Legislator for Owerri Municipal State Constituency and House Majority Leader, Mr. Lugard Osuji commended the CP for his aiding in quelling the crisis between the Organized Labour and the State Government.

He said, “It was Lakanu, who was one of the protagonists in seeing to the end of the crisis. He was the one that summoned the leadership of the Labour and State Government and eventually brokered the peace.”
Also speaking, Mr. Lawman Duruji, who represents Ehime Mbano State Constituency stated that the CP calmed the medical doctors in the state, who under the aegis of Nigeria Medical Association alleged that the state police shot one of their own in the head during one of their peaceful demonstrations in Owerri over concessioning of some health institutions in the state.

The CP was said to have quelled the then imminent clash with doctors when he asked them to produce the doctor that was said to be shot at the head, extract of the bullets and clips depicting when he was shot.
“These questions the CP posed to doctors with Dr. Hycinth Emele as the NMA Chairman raised no answers and proved the doctors wrong, hence the end of matter,” Duruji said.
