Okorocha To ICPC: Bail Out Funds Were Used To Pay Imo Workers

The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has reacted to allegations made by the Independent Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that the Imo State government diverted N26 billion naira bail- out funds given to the State by the Federal Government for payment of workers’ salaries.

In a statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemedo, he said rather the ICPC was economical with the truth as the state government used the monies from the bail -out funds for the purpose it was released to the State by the federal government- which is to pay workers salaries.

The Governor’s aide dismissed the issue of diversion daring the commission to publish details of the alleged diversion, wondering how the ICPC came to the conclusion that transfers were made into certain accounts not related to salaries and emoluments.

The ICPC had claimed in a report that the state government diverted N2billion naira into a government account and N2 billion paid into an Imo State project account and N2billion naira transferred into a micro finance bank.

The Governor’s media aide said “ The ICPC was right that such monies were paid into the mentioned accounts and that he expected the commission to go further to tell the public what such funds paid into those accounts were used for”

“The Commission became stingy with facts at that point” Onwuemedo said.

He asked “Before the bailout funds, there were existing accounts government was using to pay salaries. While giving the bailout funds was there any specified account that was given that must be paid from?”

Onwuemedo wondered that from the mentioned government accounts by the ICPC, personnel of Imo security network, Imo community watch, Youth Must Work, Teachers, Community Government Council and men of Imo Civil Guard were paid all their arrears in December 2015.

“We stand to be contradicted on this claim” the statement said
