Super Eagles Defender, Kenneth Omeruo has announced his intention to take part in Nigeria’s U-23 team that will feature in the soccer event of the Rio Olympics.
Omeruo’s intent is coming barely few hours Nigeria was drawn in Group B alongside Japan. Colombia and Sweden in the soccer event of the Olympics.
The Chelsea player who is on loan to Turkish side, Kimpasa is eligible to play in the Olympics since he is 22.
The tournament is open to players under the age of 23. Three players above the age of 23 are allowed in each squad.
Omeruo who was quoted on Chelsea website said he is optimistic that he will take part in the Olympics having admitted that he enjoys life in Istanbul.
” I just want to finish the season and try and help Ksaimpasa to play in Europe” he said
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner said he enjoys life in his Turkish club
Omeruo said: It is a club in the European side of Istanbul. It doesn’t have as many fans as the bigger Istanbul clubs but they are financially stable and they have amazing facilities.
“The atmosphere can be incredible especially when you are playing against the biggest clubs, teams like Fernabache , Besiktas and Galatsaray. It doesn’t matter if you are playing against the biggest clubs” he said
