Imo State received the highest allocation from the federation
account from May 2015 to May 2016.
INNONEWS.COM gathered that the State has received a
total of N71.7 billion in allocation since the All Progressive Congress; APC
took over power from the PDP on May 29, 2015.
This figure shows that the State collected the highest
allocation among States in the South East region.This is aside over N50
billion naira the State received in the mould of bail- out funds from the Federal
Government.
Abia State received N58.2 billion naira, Enugu-
N59.6 billion naira, Ebonyi State- N49.4 billion naria , while Anambra State
received N63.7 billion naira in the last one year.
Despite this allocation, workers salaries in Imo
State are slashed by 30 % while pensioners last Monday protested on the streets
of Owerri over non- payment of pension arrears. pensioners of Imo Broadcasting Corporation, IBC are owed 36
months pension while those in AICE claim they are owed for over 60 months.
The State government had sacked 3, 000 workers in
January 2016 citing dwindling allocation from the federal purse as reason for
its action. The action was reversed when the national leadership of Nigeria
Labour Congress, NLC opposed the measure which led to the reinstatement of the workers.
A local tabloid in the State had raised an alarm
alleging that some top government officials diverted over more than N5 billion
naria from the bail- out funds.
The Economic And Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC stormed the State and arrested some of the officials including
Paschal Obi, the Chief Principal Secretary to the Governor.
Despite massive resentment and complains over groaning
hardship and hunger in the State, Okorocha says his Rescue Mission programme is
on track as he is committed on delivering dividends of democracy to the people
of Imo State.
