Speculations were rife mid week in Owerri that
tension, the Treasury Single Account (TSA), unpaid wages may have been the cause of the death of the Director General of Imo
Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) Director General, Esther Egbunna.
The former DG died last week.
This speculation was orchestrated by workers of the corporation
who say that the DG may have passed on as a result of accumulated tension over
the inability of the Corporation to pay four months salaries of workers and 38
months pension arrears of pensioners of the corporation.
These views were said to have been expressed by some workers quietly
to the visiting leadership of Independent Newspaper Publishers Association, a
group made up of publishers of local tabloids in Imo State who went on a
courtesy call to the IBC last week.
The bemoaning workers alleged
that the Treasury Single Account, TSA made it impossible for the late DG to
have money at her disposal to off-set the IBC bills in salaries and pensions.
They alleged corruption in the TSA policy now, as the suffering workers claimed that the cooperation was generating enough money to pay its workers and pensioners.

According to them, they would shut down the station any moment from now
in order to make sure that the right things were done.
The INPA chairman, Elder Lambert Ojukwu condoled
with the corporation over the sudden death of Evang. Egbuna, even as he urged
the staff and management to commit their affairs in the hands of God.
Elder Ojukwu described the ace broadcaster’s death as a tragedy, devastating, saddened, promising the corporation of his leadership with the IBC.
