Former
Imo State deputy governor, Jude Agbaso may plunge into the race for the Owerri
senatorial seat.
A
source to the ex deputy governor said plans are in top gear to draft the ext
deputy governor into the senatorial race.
“He
is yet to make up his mind on the issue but plans are on to convince him to run
for Owerri senatorial seat. For now, nothing is concrete “the source told this
blog.
If he responds to pressure, Agbaso is expected
to contest on the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
The
ex governor was accused of graft and was impeached by the Imo State House of
Assembly, an allegation disapproved by his elder brother and serial governorship candidate in Imo
State, Chief Martin Agbaso.
Agbaso
claimed that the allegations are false and a set up designed by the Imo State
Government. The former deputy governor was recently cleared of any financial
misdeed by Nigeria’s anti graft agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC).
A
development which prompted his supporters to storm the streets of Owerri, Imo
State capital, demanding for his reinstatement as Deputy Governor of Imo State.
The
Imo State Government has maintained that the EFCC is not competent enough to
clear the ex deputy governor of financial misdeed, insisting that only the
Courts has the authority to do so.
