Okorocha: Will he Move To PDP? |
Despite the denial by his aides that Imo State Governor, Owelle
Rochas Okorocha has no intention to switch to another political party, this
blog gathered that stiff conditions and a fierce refusal from PDP eggheads from
Imo State were among other reasons why Governor Okorocha is yet to decamp to
the PDP.
Okorocha was alleged to have approached the party leadership in
Abuja, a move his aide said was false and a blackmail orchestrated by the PDP.
But a report further strengthens the move that the Imo Governor
actually wanted to decamp to the PDP on the condition that he will be given an
automatic ticket to contest for a second term as governor of the State.
This was rejected by the party leadership after consultations
with top PDP eggheads in Imo State who rejected Okorocha’s entrance and
threatened to decamp to the opposition, All Progressive Congress, APC if he is
allowed to stroll into the party again.
As a subtle manner to ease off the Imo Governor, he was
allegedly told by the PDP bigwigs in Abuja that he can join but subject himself
to the party’s primaries.
This was said to have forced the Imo Governor back to the
drawing board and perhaps influenced his decision to stay put in the APC, a
party where he heads the Governors forum.
As part of his strategy
to boost the APC in Imo, the Imo Governor has embarked on an sensitization tour
to the Local Government’s across the State. Though termed an assessment tour,
the tour is believed to be part of a ploy to boost the party in the State.
The APC is not gaining popularity in Imo State despite the fact
it is the ruling party. In a month, three of Okorocha’s political allies
decamped to the PDP.
They are Gibson Njemanze (Oyiga) who resigned his positions as
Mayor of Owerri Zone, Okorocha’s kinsman, Chief Felix Idiga and recently a
member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Owerri Federal
Constituency, Hon. Ezenwa Onyewuchi.
The APC is Governor
Okorocha’s fourth political party. He decamped from the defunct APP to the PDP,
returned to the ANPP, later switched to Action Alliance, back to the PDP before
winning the 2011 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressive
Grand Alliance (APGA). He later dumped APGA for his latest political fortress,
the APC.
