OSUJI |
Majority leader of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon Lugard Osuji told INNONEWS that there is no iota of truth in the allegations, describing it as cheap blackmail against the lawmakers for insisting that the process and rules in screening commissioner nominees will not be compromised.
Osuji was reacting to allegations made by some of the commissioner nominees that lawmakers are requesting between N1m and N2m each as bribe before they are screened.
The lawmaker said members of the House decided to stick to the procedures as stipulated by the House in carrying out such exercise, stating that those who are uncomfortable with their insistence on Due Process are the ones feeding the public with bundle of lies.
“We have said it repeatedly that tthe screening will not be business as usual. We asked some of them to produce their certificates. Some of our party members were even told to produce results of their booths during the election.
“We let them know that the list from the Executive does not mean that they will be screened automatically by the legislature. Things have be done thoroughly and properly
“Because we insisted in doing things properly, they are now blackmailing us. But we are not perturbed about it. We will do our job
The lawmaker who represents Owerri municipal State constituency confirmed to this newspaper that some nominees have been screened.
